1995 · 88 min · Drama, Documentary
40 international directors were asked to make a short film using the original Cinematographe invented by the Lumière Brothers, working under conditions similar to those of 1895. There were three rules: (1) The film could be no longer than 52 seconds, (2) no synchronized sound was permitted, and (3) no more than three takes.
Directed by John Boorman, Michael Haneke and Costa-Gavras. Starring Jeff Alperi, Romane Bohringer, Bruno Ganz, Ticky Holgado and Alan Rickman.
Lyradrift plots Lumière & Company as a star at the centre of its own sky, with related films orbiting it as satellites, gathered from TMDB recommendations, shared themes, Wikidata links (same director, writer, series, source material or subject) and closeness of feel, then chosen for the strongest evidence — the closer and brighter a star, the more strongly it is related. Fly to any satellite to make it the new centre and keep exploring.
